TikTok’s Community Guidelines define what is and isn’t allowed across all content — videos, comments, live streams, DMs, and account profiles. They apply to every creator regardless of follower count, enforced through AI systems and human review.
Guidelines exist to foster a safe, inclusive, and authentic community. You can appeal content decisions through the in-app appeal process within 30 days of any action.
🚫 Prohibited Content
- Hate speech, harassment & discrimination
- Violence, gore & dangerous challenges
- Adult nudity & explicit sexual content
- Harmful misinformation & health scams
- Spam & inauthentic engagement (bots, pods)
- Content endangering minors — zero tolerance
- Unlabeled deepfakes impersonating real people
✅ Account Standards
- Min. age: 13+ for standard accounts
- 18+ for monetization & receiving gifts
- 16+ to host LIVE streams
- Zero active Community Guideline strikes
- Authentic engagement only — no purchased followers
- Account history reviewed for past violations
- Original, non-copied content required
TikTok prohibits content that could harm individuals or the broader community. Beyond Module 1, these specific behaviors are strictly forbidden:
- Dangerous activities, challenges, or stunts that could cause physical injury
- Misinformation, including false medical, scientific, or election-related claims
- Spam, coordinated inauthentic behavior, or artificially inflated engagement
- Unauthorized use of copyrighted music, video clips, or other intellectual property
- Scams, fraud, or deceptive tactics targeting other users
TikTok takes the safety of its users — especially minors — very seriously. As a creator, you have a responsibility to uphold these protections at all times.
- Do not share or solicit private personal information about others (doxxing)
- Do not feature minors in content without verifiable parental or guardian consent
- Accounts for users under 13 are prohibited — do not encourage registration
- Do not engage in or encourage cyberbullying, harassment, or stalking
- Use the “Not Safe for Teens” content setting for mature or age-restricted material
- Report any child exploitation content immediately using TikTok’s in-app tools
Each TikTok monetization program has its own follower, age, and content thresholds. Meeting the numbers is not enough — TikTok also evaluates account quality, authenticity, and compliance history.
| Program | Min. Followers | Age Req. | View Threshold |
|---|---|---|---|
| LIVE Gifts | 1,000+ | 16+ host / 18+ gifts | — |
| Creator Fund | 10,000+ | 18+ | 100K / 30 days |
| Creator Rewards | 10,000+ | 18+ | 100K / 30 days |
| TikTok Shop | 5,000+ | 18+ | — |
| Brand Partnerships | Varies | 18+ | Engagement focused |
When you receive payment, gifts, or other compensation to promote a product or brand, you must follow both TikTok’s policies and FTC disclosure requirements.
- Do not promote products banned on TikTok — tobacco, weapons, adult content, etc.
- Financial products and supplements require category approval before promotion
- Fake reviews and misleading claims about sponsored products are strictly prohibited
- TikTok Creator Marketplace agreements must match your disclosed partnerships
- All formal brand partnerships must go through the TikTok One platform
Before posting, enable Disclose Commercial Content. Choose Branded Content for paid/gifted partnerships, or Promotional Content for your own brand.
A “Paid Partnership” or “Promotional Content” label is applied in the lower-left corner of your video.
TikTok notifies you within 2–3 hours if a video may contain undisclosed branded content. Fix it within 24 hours or the video loses For You feed eligibility.
All formal brand partnerships must route through TikTok One. The platform auto-activates disclosure labels for all partnered projects.
As AI-generated and AI-altered content becomes more prevalent on TikTok, strict new labeling and prohibition rules are now in effect. These apply to all creators regardless of intent or audience size.
✅ Required
- Label any video where AI generates or significantly alters people, voices, or realistic scenes
- Use TikTok’s built-in AI label — visible, on-screen disclosure is required
- Deepfakes of real individuals require explicit labeling regardless of intent
- Content that could be mistaken for real must be disclosed, even if meant as humor
🚫 Prohibited
- AI-generated endorsements simulating someone promoting a product without consent
- Deepfakes impersonating real people without clear, prominent labeling
- AI content designed to spread misinformation or deceive viewers
- Synthetic media used to misrepresent real-world events or statements
LIVE streams are held to the same Community Guidelines as regular content — but violations are enforced in real time with no editing window. Know the rules before you go live.
Eligibility
- 1,000+ followers required to host a LIVE
- 16+ years old to go live
- 18+ to receive virtual gifts
- Good account standing required
Prohibited on LIVE
- Adult or sexually explicit content
- Violent or dangerous acts
- Directing viewers to external sites or sharing personal contacts
- Off-platform promotion in restricted ways
Monetization via LIVE
- Virtual Gifts can be earned from viewers
- Gifts convert to Diamonds → redeemable as cash
- LIVE Gifts eligibility revoked for violations
- Community Guidelines apply in real-time
Music on LIVE
- Background music must be licensed
- Unlicensed tracks can mute the entire stream
- Use TikTok’s licensed music library
- Some regions have stricter live music rules
Your choice of music can make or break a video — using the wrong track can get it muted, removed from the For You feed, or taken down entirely. Repeat offenses risk account suspension.
Business and branded accounts must use TikTok’s Commercial Music Library for all commercial content.
Creating original sounds is always safe and encouraged. Original audio can boost discoverability and is fully owned by you.
Music with rights clearance can be used. Some tracks require a paid license (~$15–20/month from licensed music providers).
Using copyrighted music without rights leads to video muting, removal from the For You feed, or full content takedown. Repeat violations result in account suspension.
TikTok uses a tiered enforcement system. Severity and frequency of violations determine the consequence. As of July 2025, a single severe violation can result in an immediate permanent ban.
In-app notification for minor violations. Address within 24 hours. No lasting account impact for a first warning.
Content removed from the For You feed. Limits reach and discoverability but the account remains active.
Serious violation flag. Accumulating strikes progressively blocks access to monetization programs.
The video is taken down. Repeated removals trigger a broader account review that can escalate to suspension.
Issued for severe or repeated violations. A single severe violation can trigger an immediate, permanent ban effective July 2025.
- Keep records of your content — screenshots, drafts, and contracts — in case an appeal is needed
- Proactively review guideline updates — TikTok revises policies regularly throughout the year
- When in doubt, don’t post — use Creator Support to ask questions before publishing
- Monitor your account health score in the Creator Portal to catch issues early
- Appeal wrongful decisions promptly; the 30-day window starts from the date of action
